My Leadership Reflection (20%)
The purpose of this assessment is to reflect on your leadership development and approach. Your reflection must draw on concepts, literature, theories and workshop activities explicitly from Themes 1, 2 and 3 of the unit. It should also build on the raw data and content from your My Leadership weekly meta reflections offering an overall personal leadership narrative on what you have learned and future development to be effective in leading and influencing in business. It is not a repetition of the content of the weekly reflections but a broader narrative on your learning and development.
Overview of My Leadership Reflection Assignment
This assessment is a reflection on your leadership development, style and potential to become more effective to lead and influence. You will look back at how theme 1 and 2 informed and influenced your leadership journey and also look at what leadership styles/approaches from theme 3 may best resonate with your journey to then identify skills and experiences needed to be effective in leading and influencing in the future.
Assessment details
The leadership reflection has two main parts:
Part 1 (42.5%): Analysis of your leadership development (estimate 500 words)
Building on your My Leadership weekly reflections; select a total of two areas (topics): one topic each from Theme: 1 and Theme 2, and provide a deeper analysis of what you have learned about your self-development in leadership using theories, literature and frameworks from the unit. Your analysis will nuance why and how this development will be important for being an effective leader in the future. This analysis must explicitly build on the chosen weekly leadership reflection topics to demonstrate a more considered reflection, NOT just repeat the weekly reflection text.
Part 2 (42.5%) : Reflection on your leadership style (estimate 500 words)
Building on your Theme 3: My Leadership weekly reflections, briefly describe your leadership style/approach (this can be a combination of leadership approaches (such as Trait and Situational etc.) or a specific approach (for example: Transformational leadership, Ethical leadership, Authentic leadership, Humble leadership etc.) and why this is important to you. Critically analyse your leadership style to better understand your strengths and weaknesses, using theories, concepts, and literature from modules 1 to 12, and apply the theories/concepts/literature to better understand your strengths and weaknesses. Considerations must include:
How has this particular leadership style/approach influenced the way you have led yourself OR others during the semester. Provide ONE concrete example.
Based on this analysis, identify and justify ONE key development action that you will undertake to be a more effective leader
Part 3 (10%) : Overall Structure and internal flow of assessment & Referencing (APA7)
Part 4 (5%): Appendix – includes screen shots of all of your MYBUSS2000 Reflections and any other relevant supplementary material to support the narrative.
Weight: 20% of your final mark for this unit of study
Word length – 1000 words +/- 10%. This excludes references and appendices but includes in-text citation). Use a 12 point font and double line spacing to help with marking ease.

Referencing Format: The reflection must use a minimum of four sources explicitly from the BUSS2000 reading list (no additional research is required and no extra marks are given for extra research). Report structure
Yes you can use headers to help structure your reflection (but this is included in the word count)
There is no need for a content page or title page. If you opt to, the word text is also included in the word count
Yes you can write a brief introduction, but keep it brief it will included in the word count.
Please use the 1st person pronoun. This is a personal reflection so we want you to express your analysis in terms of "I, my ...etc"
Self Citing
If referencing or meaningfully quoting your My Leadership reflections - you must cite your own work otherwise you will self plagiarize. Marks will not be given for papers that purely copy and paste My Leadership reflections without analysis. Assignments that repeat reflections verbatim and rely primarily on citing their reflections will not attract high marks.
Example of My Leadership Reflections - self-citation:
Given that the weekly leadership reflections from modules 1 to 12 have helped to scaffold your thinking towards your leadership, you can include insights from your reflections into your analysis, but do not just copy and paste large chunks of your reflection, nor repeat these verbatim - these need to be integrated meaningfully to support your analysis and be referenced correctly. Your reflections are regarded as an ‘unpublished manuscript’ and an example of how to in-text cite and reference this correctly in your report, see the following:
The in-text citation will be the same as the APA convention, for example: “[Surname] (2023) highlighted …” or “ Drawing from previous work ([surname], 2024)……”
The final reference to be placed in your reference list, for example: [Surname], [Initial]. (2023). BUSS2000: Module 3 My Leadership reflection. [Unpublished manuscript]. WOS, Business School, University of Sydney.

Other appendices, such as scales, pre-work activities, or in-class activities providing evidence supporting your reflection, should also be presented ONLY as screenshots in the appendices.
Marks will be attributed to those who have been consistent in submitting their reflections throughout the semester.
